Top 5 Android smartphones for the holidays - News - Know Your Cell

You probably saw our top 5 Windows phones for the holidays last week, but this week, friends, we're on to Android. It's already Nov. 5 and soon you'll be at your local mall looking for gifts for loved ones, and chances are they'll want a smartphone.? So, just what type of device will you be getting them? A new Android phone, possibly? If that sounds like something a family member or friend wants, you've come to the right place.

Here, we've done all the thinking for you and broken down your choices as best we can. All of the Android handsets on the list will no doubt help those in your life answer e-mails, read news and watch videos, among other things.

Most of them can be found at the big retailers, such as Best Buy, Target, or Radio Shack. You can also probably get a deal at Amazon Wireless or Wirefly.

That said, let's take a look at some of the best Android smartphones for this holiday season.

Google Nexus 4. The Google Nexus 4 was just announced, but it's already one of the most anticipated smartphones of the season. The Nexus 4 sports a 4.7-inch HD display and a quad-core S4 CPU. It also boasts Android 4.2 and has an awesomely sexy glass back.

Samsung Galaxy S3. Yes, the Galaxy S3 is still on the list and that's because it's a great smartphone. With a colorful design and massive display, the S3 will be a favorite, especially among first time smartphone owners. The device also has a great camera for snapping pics on the go. The Galaxy S3 is available on all four major carriers.

LG Optimus G. The Optimus G is LG's high-end Galaxy S3 competitor. It is comparable to the Nexus 4 and is powered by a S4 processor. The device also sports an HD screen and a great 13-megapixel shooter. It will be available on Sprint and AT&T.

Motorola DROID RAZR HD. The Motorola RAZR HD is a hell of a handset with a great screen and a dual-core CPU. It has a great design and runs Android 4.0 ICS with Jelly Bean due anytime. The RAZR HD is Verizon's best Android smartphone and definitely worth a buy for any loved one on your list.

Samsung Galaxy S2. Surprised to see the Galaxy S2 on this list? We know it's a last generation smartphone, but for the cheap price you can get it at, this smartphone is a great device. The Galaxy S2 is available on all four major carriers and will get Jelly Bean. The device can be had on T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint for as low as $99.

There you have it; there's our list. What are your thoughts on the smartphones mentioned above? Please let us know in the comments below!
