Announcing new ''Shorebirds of the United States and Canada'' Identification App

November 14, 2012 (MMD Newswire) -- The Wild Bird Centers of America is proud to partner with Birdzilla.com and its newly published "Shorebird" application, now available on Apple's app store.

Shorebirds are one of the more challenging group of birds to identify so the new Shorebirds app is both an identification and powerful education tool for those interested in improving their shorebird identification skills. This app (iPhone and iPad) fills an important niche by featuring over 240 images of 50 shorebird species. The app is co-authored by shorebird expert Kevin Karlson who provides structural identification tips for each of the 50 species plus notes on accompanying images.

The iPhone and iTouch version is designed for quick reference in the field. An image index provides short descriptive notes for each species as well as quick-play feature for each birds call. Once a species is selected, 2 to 6 images are shown, with descriptive information for each species. Finally, users can elect to see more information for each species, including a range map.

The iPad version is ideal for improving shorebird identification skills. The larger screen size allows users to easily study individual images while reading descriptive information. Users can also record their own notes for each species on a special digital notepad. Additional descriptive information includes the Bent Life History for selected species.

Additional features include: a special "Comparator", allowing users to compare any two images in the app; two identification games, one based on images and one on bird calls and a short demonstration video via YouTube. The app is designed to help beginner through advanced level birders.

This exciting "Shorebirds of the United States and Canada" app is now available on the Apple app store for $5.99.
