Sports Clips Haircuts makes its debut in the Syracuse market

Syracuse, NY -- A chain dedicated to the grooming needs of men and boys opens today in Clay.

This clip-joint is called Sport Clips Haircuts, and the name pretty much lays it on the line:

?What?s better than being in a relaxing environment, where sports are on TV everywhere you look, with well-trained stylists and no need for an appointment when it?s time for a haircut?? said John Brecht, who, along with his wife, Patty, owns the franchise.

It opens today in the Cor Center on Route 31. It?s in the outparcel property in front of Target, next to Empire Vision.

Haircuts are $17 for men, but Brecht is counting on his new customer to upgrade. The MVP Experience includes a shampoo, haircut, hot steamed towel treatment and a neck-and-shoulder massage.

That?s $22.

?All new clients, which is basically everyone, since we?re just opening, can upgrade to that for free,? said Brecht. ?We want them to experience that.?

The Clay Sport Clips Haircuts is one of more than 1,000 Sport Clips nationwide.

Brecht, a native of Ithaca, is a sports fan, especially Syracuse University sports.

Landing a Sports Clips Haircuts franchise has been a process, said Brecht.

?What interested me was the sports theme,? said Brecht.

Each haircut station has a large, flat-screen television with sports programming playing. ?Male-focused? hair-care and styling products are available.

Express checkout

  • Destiny USA has landed the area?s first Carhartt store. The workwear-focused retailer will be building a store in the legacy part of the mall, on the first level at the main entrance. It?s taking over the spot where Mastercuts cuts now sits. Mastercuts is moving across the way, next to Eastern Mountain Sports.
  • A team from The Cheesecake Factory was recently back at Destiny USA, kicking some more tires. If they?re catching wind of the sometimes three-hour waits for tables in restaurants already opened in the expansion, they?re likely salivating (they?ve been hankering to be a part of Carousel-Destiny for years). And what with Dave & Buster?s coming in, too...
  • A couple more from Destiny: The Sears Outlet store gets merch next week and aims for a soft opening Jan. 28. It?s in the expansion and promises to be a good old-fashioned outlet store. And while there?s still no opening date, the Toby Keith?s I Love This Bar & Grill restaurant-nightclub is finishing its buildout on the third level of the expansion.
  • Here?s one that may have slipped past you: The newest Dinosaur Bar-B-Que opened in November. It?s in Stamford, Conn., in that city?s Harbor Point. You?ll find it set inside a refurbished factory building that was once part of the Yale Lock Co.
