Fireworks

This year five Station Casinos are hosting fireworks displays on July 4. The nine-minute displays will start at 9 p.m. at Stations Casinos around the valley including Aliante Station, Green Valley Ranch Resort and Spa, Fiesta Rancho, Texas Station and Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa.

Caesars Palace is celebrating Independence Day with a fireworks display on July 7. The display will take place on the rooftop of the Roman Tower at 9:15 p.m. The festive display will offer spectators an incredible view from the Las Vegas Strip.

The City of Henderson is honoring the United States with their annual Fourth of July Celebration from 6 ? 9:15 p.m. Located at Mission Hills Park, 551 E. Mission Dr., this free, all-ages event features three stages of live entertainment, a spectacular fireworks show and concessions. Produced by Lantis, the fireworks show will feature an awe-inspiring 18-minute display. Parking for this event will be available at Foothill High School, located on College Drive. Lake Las Vegas is starting the party early with a 4th of July celebration on June 30. From 6 ? 10 p.m. guests can stroll through The Village shops and restaurants while enjoying live music and barbeque stations set up throughout the area. Food

Central Michel Richard at Caesars Palace?is celebrating with a Great American Cookout on July 7 from 4 ? 9 p.m., the same evening the hotel is hosting a fireworks display (see above). ?Known for his love of American fare, Richard has created a summer-inspired, all-you-can-eat barbeque menu for guests to enjoy before the fireworks. The cookout will be held in the restaurant?s expansive patio area fronting Caesars? famous Roman Plaza.

The mouth-watering menu features meaty main courses including?whole roasted suckling pig, barbecue pulled-pork sandwiches, grilled bratwurst and all-beef hot dogs, grilled barbecue pork ribs and Cajun-grilled flatiron steak. The best part is it includes all-you-can-drink brewers? selections from?Tenaya Creek Brewery and Joseph James, as well as an energetic music mix spun by local DJ E.J. Luera.

Nothing says all-American like the classic burger and fries combo at ABX.

American Burger Works (ABX) at Excalibur celebrates red, white and blue by offering a special ?All American? meal?throughout July. The patriotic offering features American fare including a half-pound cheeseburger; a strawberry, vanilla or chocolate milkshake; and ABX?s signature Belgian fries, twice-fried and made with freshly-cut potatoes. Sushi and the 4th of July don?t have much in common unless you?re at Rice & Company at the Luxor. Throughout July Rice & Company is offering their special Firework Roll priced at $16. The festive roll is made with spicy tuna, avocado, yellowtail and caviar, wrapped in seaweed and topped with spicy mayo and hot chili sauce. ?When things heat up you can cool down with Rice & Company?s signature Bombshell cocktail made with Absolut Vodka, triple sec, Chambord and Frothee. The $7 cocktail is served over ice and rimmed with pop rocks.

Beef up your patriotism at Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer?at the Excalibur with their Independence Day barbeque platter. Imbibing on a Frozen Flagpole Daquiri is what our forefathers would have wanted.

Drinks

Priced at $35, the daiquiri features layers of frozen flavor including red strawberry daiquiri, white pi?a colada and blue coconut banana served in a 3-foot souvenir cup. The flagpole daiquiri is being offered throughout July. Refills are $25.

PNG - Vote for the right leader, says Bougainville President Momis

Thu, 28 Jun 2012

BUKA, PNG (THE NATIONAL) ---- As more than 145,000 eligible voters go to the polls in Bougainville this week, Autonomous Region president John Momis is encouraging them to have the moral courage to vote for the right leader. In a statement, Momis said choosing the right leaders to represent Bougainville in the national parliament was crucial to the region?s progress towards the referendum for full autonomy or independence in 2015. ?This is the time when the power lies in the hands of every citizen of Papua New Guinea to elect the best MPs that will represent them.? Momis said the job of a politician was not to create his own business or use his office to advance his interests but to serve the needs of all people, including those who did not support him. He said elected public office holders were simply public servants and servants of the people.?Elect the best person who holds the interest of the people at heart and will serve you,? he said. It is not hard talking about it but put into practice, it is very difficult that is why I urge each voter to really scrutinise each candidate and vote for the person who will serve.? ?This huge privilege to graduate a person into the political seat rests in your hands. You have equal right, no matter where you are from, whether you are young or old or literate or not, that does not matter, you have the same right to cast your vote and only you have the right to say that out of that number of candidates contesting, we graduate this person, we elect this leader to represent us. This is a great privilege,? he said. He said as an independent Autonomous Bougainville Government, the Bougainville House of Representatives was independent from the national parliament and so it was important that the four elected Bougainville members respected and worked with the ABG. ?It is true that the winning candidate will be a member of the national government but that does not mean he will have authority over the ABG. The winning candidates must collaborate with the ABG to promote nothing but the best interest of the people of Bougainville.? Momis urged that the four members elected must be united in their effort to represent the people of Bougainville in the national parliament. ?Bougainville is a special case. We have a timeline to referendum that is three years away. If we do not have a united effort from our four elected members, and with the National Government and the people of Bougainville, things will not work out, people will be angry and we could end up having another very unstable region,? warned Momis.

Android Jelly Bean update starting from mid-July for select devices

Google at its Google I/O conference in San Francisco has taken the wraps off the successor to the current Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android, known as Jelly Bean (Android 4.1), which adds improvements to search, voice typing and notifications.

Starting in mid-July, Google will start rolling out over-the-air updates of Jelly Bean to Galaxy Nexus, Motorola Xoom and Nexus S, and we'll also release Jelly Bean to open source during that time.

Android Jelly Bean update

Jelly Bean or Android 4.1 has got a new feature called Google Now that gets you just the right information at just the right time. It tells you today's weather before you start your day, how much traffic to expect before you leave for work, or your favourite team's score as they're playing, Andy Rubin, senior vice president of mobile and digital content posted in Google's official Blog.

As compared to Ice Cream Sandwich where users have to be online for initiating a voice based search command Jelly Bean brings in offline support for voice search for letting users type messages and perform searches by speaking into the phone.

Also, as a result of NFC (near-field communications) capabilities in Jelly Bean users apart from exchanging data can now exchange photos and videos and connect their Android smartphone to an external NFC enabled speaker by tapping the phone against it.

As of now Jelly Bean is coming pre loaded in Nexus 7 tablet, which is available for $199 ( Rs 11,000)in select countries.

Apple Quietly Releases Their Standalone Podcasts App Ahead Of iOS 6

podcastsiconIt wasn?t long after the iOS 6 developer beta first started hitting devices that people started noticing something peculiar about its iTunes app ? the iTunes U, Audiobooks, and Podcast sections had disappeared. That prompted quite a bit of speculation that each of those content types would get their own standalone app when the update launched, and now Apple has seemingly confirmed those inklings by releasing a new Podcasts app for iDevices running iOS 5.1 or later.

WASHINGTON Nuclear physics is a discovery-driven enterprise aimed at understanding the fundamental nature of visible matter in the universe. For the past hundred years, new knowledge of the nuclear world has also directly benefited society through many innovative applications. In its fourth decadal survey of nuclear physics, the National Research Council outlines the impressive accomplishments of the field in the last decade and recommends a long-term strategy for the future. The report builds on the Nuclear Science Advisory Committee's 2007 five-year plan and commends the Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation for effective management of the U.S. nuclear physics program. Recommended priorities for the future include exploiting recent upgrades of nuclear physics facilities, the timely completion of the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams, the development and implementation of a targeted program of underground science, and the creation of two national competitions for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.

"The recommendations in this report will help ensure a thriving and healthy field that continues to benefit society from new applications at an accelerating pace," said Stuart Freedman, professor of physics at the University of California at Berkeley, and chair of the committee that wrote the report. "The impact of nuclear physics extends well beyond furthering our scientific knowledge of the nucleus and the nature and origin of visible matter. Nuclear physics is relevant to the most important of today's problems in energy, health, and the environment."

Sophisticated new tools and protocols have been developed for successful management of the largest projects in nuclear physics, the report says. But to keep the U.S. program nimble and competitive, the committee recommends that federal agencies develop streamlined and flexible procedures tailored for initiating and managing smaller-scale nuclear science projects.

The report also advises the theoretical nuclear science community to develop a plan for exploiting the rapidly increasing power of modern computing, and to establish the infrastructure and collaborations now in order to take advantage of these capabilities as they become available. Additional priorities for the field should include continued investment in accelerator and detector research and the possible development of an electron-ion collider.

Two videos have been prepared in conjunction with the report to illustrate several of its main ideas. The videos are suitable for classroom use and clearly articulate the scientific rationale and objectives for nuclear physics, placing near-term goals in a broader international context. Supreme Court Year in Review

That said, there is an interesting thread connecting the immigration case and the life without parole case Emily mentions. As you say, Emily, Justices Kagan and Kennedy have shown a special solicitude for juveniles because they are ?different? in all the ways that have become familiar after Roper and Graham, the cases establishing that young people are reckless, impulsive, and vulnerable to external pressure?all qualities Alito sees as terrifying rather than worthy of special protection. The interesting common theme today is that Justice Scalia is desperately angry at the Obama administration?s special solicitude for children in announcing his support for a stripped down DREAM Act. Obama was announcing a new policy toward young people brought to the United States illegally by their parents for at least some of the same reasons Kagan seeks special scrutiny for young people who commit homicides. Justice Scalia is horrified at the prospect, explaining in his dissent that this will squander limited immigration resources. ?The husbanding of scarce enforcement resources can hardly be the justification for this, since those resources will be eaten up by the considerable administrative cost of conducting the nonenforcement program, which will require as many as 1.4 million background checks and biennial rulings on requests for dispensation.? I don?t want to make too much of the fact that both Alito and Scalia and?as you point out, Emily?the chief justice don?t think that special solicitude for young people, who don?t have as much control over their lives as adults, necessarily represents ?evolution? in the right direction, but it?s an interesting confluence today to say the least.
